NIC students and friends stand with their Addy Awards at the American Advertising Federation awards show in Spokane recently. The theme for this year’s award show was 1970s roller skating rink attire.

Three North Idaho College students took home gold and silver awards at the 2019 Addy Awards in Spokane recently for graphic design.

The American Advertising Federation – Spokane puts on the annual awards, which is one of the biggest of its kind in the area. All gold and silver award winners are eligible for competition at the district level.

“It was also great to see former students, who are now professionals in the field, on stage winning multiple awards in the professional division,” said Philippe Valle, NIC Graphic Design associate professor and program coordinator. NIC student winners were:

Joseph Click, of Phoenix, Ariz., won a Gold Addy award for the campaign “Animal.”

Kennedy Kindred, of Coeur d’Alene, won a Silver Addy award for a packaging redesign for an Apple iPod Touch.

Tatum Hartley, of Coeur d’Alene, won a Silver Addy award for the logo design “Ecolite.”

“I am so grateful to hold a Gold Addy for the area of design that I love the most. I started by trying something new and breaking out of my usual mold,” Click said. “To all future design students, I would say that the road to success is paved with aesthetic bricks.”

There were more than 450 attendees at the Spokane Convention Center with 425 entries. Judges came from other design markets in the U.S.

“We are always proud of the work our Graphic Design students do. They represent North Idaho College well at these types of events,” said Sue Shibley, NIC Business and Professional programs division chair.
