Celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day at NIC
North Idaho College is hosting the event “Pave the Way to Global Accessibility Awareness Day” Tuesday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Edminster Student Union Building Lake Coeur d’Alene Room. Current and future technology innovation in the field of accessibility will be on display.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who’s interested to come learn about the exciting technology available at NIC that makes our campus more accessible for people with disabilities, while also enhancing the experience for everyone else and embracing the idea of universal design,” said Jeremy Seda, NIC IT accessibility coordinator. “Global Accessibility Awareness Day, on May 16, was the perfect day for showcasing NIC’s accessible technology, but we wanted to hold the event a few weeks before the actual day of GAAD, so that we would not interfere with NIC’s Commencement Ceremony.”
There will be 25-plus exhibitors demonstrating accessible technology tools for the Internet, libraries, American sign language, universal computer workstations, assistive listening systems, autism spectrum disorder/Aspergers, and many others. Pave the Way to GAAD is also advocating for action on May 16 to make a difference for people with disabilities through the use of everyday technology such as smartphones. Visit www.nic.edu/a11y for more information, including Pave the Way to GAAD exhibitors and resources to make a difference on May 16 through productive involvement on Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
North Idaho College encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you would like to attend Pave the Way to GAAD and anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please call Seda at (208) 929-4030 in advance of your participation or visit.
Pave the Way to Global Accessibility Awareness Day is a free event for anyone who has an interest in accessible technology.
