Everyone is invited to ‘A Mother's Day Concert in the Park'
The annual North Idaho College “A Mother’s Day Concert in the Park” will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12, at Coeur d’Alene City Park.
This concert not only closes out the school year at NIC, but heralds summer in Coeur d’Alene.
“The unofficial start of summer in CDA starts with this magnificent concert in a beautiful setting on the lake,” said NIC Director of Bands Bryan Hannaford. “Pack a lunch, bring a chair, and celebrate mom with an amazing soundtrack from stage and screen.”
The concert will feature an eclectic mix of musical works that will feature the NIC Wind Symphony and the NIC Chamber Singers directed by Andrea Olsen. The NIC Chamber Singers will sing musical numbers from Rent, Hamilton, and Les Miserables with the NIC Wind Symphony.
The NIC Wind Symphony will open the concert with Raiders March by John Williams, which first appeared in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark. Williams created this march as an “adventure” theme to be associated with Indiana Jones. The music was originally introduced at the beginning of the first film when Indiana made his initial escape from his pursuers and was subsequently used as the musical accompaniment for all of his daring exploits.
The audience will hear more movie music when the NIC Wind Symphony performs music from Star Wars: The Last Jedi by John Willaims, and Klaus Badlet’s film score to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse for the Black Pearl. This concert will also feature a tribute to the men and women who have served our country with an Armed Forces Salute. The concert will end with a performance of the Unites States’ national march Stars & Stripes Forever.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center.
This concert is free and open to the public.
