North Idaho College will offer free safety training at the 12th annual Safety Fest of the Great Northwest Feb. 19-21 at the NIC Workforce Training Center in Post Falls. This Safety Fest will also feature a trade show Feb. 19-20. Organizers are currently looking for companies to lend their support to this year’s event. More information about how to be a part of Safety Fest 2020 is available here www.nic.edu/safetyfest.

April Woelk, safety director at the Haskins Company in Spokane, and Becky Hall, safety technician at PotlatchDeltic Corp., are the new co-chairs for this year’s Safety Fest. This three-day, free event is an opportunity for the general public and companies to receive free safety training for their employees from the area’s best safety instructors.

“I’ve been helping out with Safety Fest for the last four years and watching it grow in registrants, instructors, and classes has been amazing,” Hall said. “PotlatchDeltic has seen the immense value in Safety Fest and has given great support over the years as a platinum sponsor.” Last year Safety Fest served over 650 participants.

Hall said PotlatchDeltic has benefited from sending several employees through the years to earn certificates of completion and industry credentials.

“They’ve learned safety audits, hazard recognition, rigging, trench shoring, and even management skills for supervisors – the list goes on and on,” Hall said. “The wide range of classes provided cover the majority of industries in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area, including mining, timber, agriculture, construction and general industry. New classes are added every year, based on the needs of the community.”

Safety Fest offers more than 60 classes to choose from for workers in construction, general industry, mining, agriculture and logging. Classes offered include OSHA 10, CPR/First Aid, Cyber Crimes and Safety, Mine Safety, HAZWOPER refresher, Work Zone Flagging, and Active Shooter, among many others.

“Anyone who would like to offer training or be an exhibitor will find an excellent opportunity to advance workplace safety and decrease incidents in our region,” Woelk said. “This year there are many exciting changes to classes being offered and many new instructors, so even if you have attended in the past, we think you will find classes that will expand your safety knowledge.”
