NIC to celebrate commencement in-person Friday
North Idaho College will celebrate the class of 2022 in-person with a commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 13 in the Christianson Gymnasium on NIC’s main campus in Coeur d’Alene.
There are 825 students eligible to graduate from NIC degree and certificate programs this year, including 104 dual credit students who have earned their associate degree in tandem with their high school diploma. Approximately 350 graduates are expected to walk in Friday’s commencement ceremony.
This year’s commencement speaker is Dr. Lita Burns, who worked at NIC for more than 20 years. She served in several roles, including Director of Health Professions and Nursing, Dean of Health Professions, Vice President of Instruction and Acting President. She retired in January.
Her 30-plus years in higher education began in her home state of Wyoming, where she initially served as nursing faculty at Central Wyoming College. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wyoming, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado and a Doctorate in Leadership Studies from Gonzaga University.
Only guests with a ticket will be admitted to the ceremony, which is the college’s first in-person commencement ceremony since 2019.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early for seating and parking. Campus streets will close down at 9:45 a.m. for the processional. Parking permits will not be needed on the day of commencement.
Portions of College Drive from Garden Avenue south to McLain Hall will be closed for additional disabled parking. Those needing special accommodations should call NIC Disability Support Services at (208) 769-5947.
The commencement ceremony will also be streamed live via YouTube and on Cd’A TV Channel 19. The livestream will also be broadcast in the Lake Coeur d'Alene Room in the Edminster Student Union Building on campus.
