NIC men's basketball wins North Idaho Team of the Year

The North Idaho College men’s basketball team was honored at the North Idaho Sports Banquet on Saturday, April 8 as they were named North Idaho Male Team of the Year.

The Cardinals went undefeated through the regular season and went into the NWAC Championship tournament with a 28-0 record. NIC fell to Bellevue College in the first round of the playoffs after a successful season in which they otherwise outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points per game.

The team had four players earn All-Region honors this year, and NIC Head Coach Corey Symons was selected as the East Region Coach of the Year. Julius Mims, Taden King, and Cobi Campbell were selected for the All-Region First Team, and Xavier Bailey was selected for the All-Defensive Team. 

Campbell was also selected for the Freshman of the Year award, and Mims was selected for Defensive Player of the Year. Campbell and Mims each led the team in points per game with 16.9; Mims led the team in rebounds averaging 9.9 per game; and Brendon Johnson averaged the most assists per game with 3.5.

The Cardinals finished the regular season as the top-ranked team in the NWAC. The team finished first in points per game with 94.4; second in field goal percentage and three-point percentage at 51.7% and 41.9% respectively; and fifth in rebounds per game at 39.

Other finalists nominated for Male Team of the Year include University of Idaho football, Lewis-Clark State College baseball, NIC golf, University of Idaho tennis and NIC wrestling.
