The North Idaho College Music Department is set to perform the Choral Kaleidoscope concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center on NIC’s Coeur d’Alene Campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The theme of the concert is “Choral Classics” where the NIC Cardinal Chorale, directed by NIC Adjunct Professor of Music Stan McDaniel, will perform choral selections from different periods in music history.

“The performance will have something for every musical taste,” McDaniel said.

The concert opens with a rendition of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s “Sicut Cervus (As the Deer Pants for Flowing Steam) and is followed by selections from the Baroque era including choruses by George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach.

The show will also feature Mozart’s “Missa Brevis in C Major, K. 220” with local guest soloists Jenny Shotwell, Chuck Ethridge, Jaci Cummings and Joel Cummings followed by a selection from 19th-century composer Felix Mendelssohn. The concert also features local musician Sam Mirkin as a piano soloist playing selected works from Bach and Mozart.

The chorale will close the show with two secular selections from Ola Gjeilo’s “The Ground” and Mack Wilberg’s arrangement of “Simple Gifts” performed with a flute, piccolo and glockenspiel.
