Biography:

Erin Davis has taught English at NIC since 2008, and currently serves as its writing center coordinator. She received her BA in English education/literature and her MA in English literacy studies from California State University, Long Beach. She is currently a PhD candidate in leadership studies at Gonzaga University, where her research focuses on how English and humanities programs can help first-year community college students increase their self-efficacy as writers and as members of the academic community.

Davis believes that becoming a college-level writer helps you become a more critical thinker, and finds that one of the perks of her job is helping her students learn to clarify their ideas, support their positions, and consider multiple perspectives when they write. When she teaches NIC’s Literature and Ideas course, she finds inspiration in those moments when her students find themselves unexpectedly moved, challenged, awakened, or entertained by a text that they read in her class. She loves teaching Introduction to English Studies because it gives her the opportunity to work with new and potential English majors, who are some of her very favorite people.

Davis lives, writes poetry, hikes, and takes regular naps near the Little Spokane River.
