Biography:

Kat Gilmore has taught English at North Idaho College since 2014.  She received her BA in philosophy, with a minor in literature from the University of Nevada, Reno.  This crossover degree program highlighted the intersection of philosophy and literature.  She has always been interested in where the philosophy of ethical and social ideals meet the storytellers. It is this pursuit that led her to continue to her  MA in English/literature from California State University, Long Beach.  Sharing the ability to convey beliefs, thoughts and ideals through writing and storytelling is what drives her teaching.  Knowing the importance of story also drives her second passion, adult literacy.  An advocate for adult literacy in her community, she is the founder and director of The Literacy Project of North Idaho. A nonprofit that helps adults in our community learn to read, write and speak English.

She is an avid runner and adventurer in all things outdoors. Prior to moving to Idaho, she traveled throughout the US exploring and realized that North Idaho is everything and made it her new home. She loves the people (NIC students especially!)  as much as she loves the environment.
