NIC Firefighter 1 Academy celebrates 10 years
Ten years ago, the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center partnered with area fire agencies to create the Firefighter 1 Academy. The academy is run from mid-January through mid-May and trains up 16 individuals to prepare for national certification testing, which is required for those pursuing firefighting as a career path.

NIC wrestlers give out free books to elementary schools
The North Idaho College wrestling team is giving out free books this holiday season to various local elementary schools as part of the Shirley Parker Reading Program. These student-athletes have given out more than 850 free books so far this month – and more than 18,000 books in the program’s history.

Public Notice of NWCCU Accreditation Visit
The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) will perform a comprehensive accreditation visit to North Idaho College (NIC) on April 15-17, 2020. The purpose of the visit is to evaluate NIC’s compliance with NWCCU accreditation standards and policies. During the visit, an NWCCU peer evaluation team will be meeting with students, faculty, staff and NIC Board of Trustees.
NIC Alumni Association announces awards
Three North Idaho College alums were honored at the NIC Foundation Scholarship Celebration dinner on the college’s campus on Nov. 19, including former Kootenai County Commissioner and Idaho State Sen. Richard “Dick” Compton, who was awarded the Distinguished Alumni of the Year award. Compton graduated from NIC in 1953.

NIC Metallica Scholars presented with $92, 600 for career, technical
North Idaho College students received the ticket to a bright future Wednesday, being awarded $92,000 in scholarships at a presentation held at the NIC Parker Technical Education Center. About 30 students watched a short video message from the band before accepting their scholarships.
