Three North Idaho College alums were honored at the NIC Foundation Scholarship Celebration dinner on the college’s campus on Nov. 19, including former Kootenai County Commissioner and Idaho State Sen. Richard “Dick” Compton, who was awarded the Distinguished Alumni of the Year award. Compton graduated from NIC in 1953.
Sherry Wallis, Community Development Officer for Spokane Teachers Credit Union, was the recipient of the Honorary Alumna of the Year Award. Wallis regularly promotes financial education for students and adults and has been a strong advocate for NIC.
Josh Gittel, current NIC Senior Accountant and former NIC president of the Associated Students of NIC, was honored with the 2019 Alumni of the Year Award. Gittel has served the college in several leadership roles since he was a student at NIC and is also extremely active in the community as a leader for activities such as church youth group and Boy Scouts of America.
