NIC auto body refinish and repair students win SkillsUSA national medals
A North Idaho College student is the nation’s No. 1 college-age auto refinisher. Ashleigh Anderson, of Hayden, won the gold medal in automotive refinishing technology in the SkillsUSA National Championships. The national auto refinishing, collision repair and collision damage appraisal competitions were held virtually June 17. Anderson competed online from NIC’s Parker Technical Education Center in Rathdrum where the college’s Autobody and Paint Technology program is offered.

North Idaho College men’s and women’s basketball programs will be hosting the Coeur d’Alene Shootout 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on North Idaho College’s main campus Aug. 21 and 22.

Aguirre signs with Corban University
North Idaho College men’s soccer player Jairo Aguirre has signed to play with Corban University this fall. The Woodburn, Oregon native is currently a sophomore and a returning starter for the Cardinals. NIC began NWAC play March 31, opening with a home game against Columbia Basin College.

CNA Apprenticeship breaks new ground
The practice of apprenticeship has a storied history that goes back to at least the Code of Hammurabi in ancient Babylon. The Romans also saw the value of craftsmen passing down their trades to the next generation, and guilds in the Middle Ages centered around a master/apprentice model. There’s a simple reason this model has been around for thousands of years.

North Idaho College Theatre student David Fisher was recently awarded the George R. Caldwell Undergraduate Scholarly Paper Meritorious Achievement Award by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Region 7. Fisher received the honor for his essay “Local Theatre in Northern Idaho: Hate Has Role in Our Community.”

Tri-State wrestling tournament postponed
The 50th annual Tri-State Invitational, a popular high school wrestling tournament hosted each December by North Idaho College, will be postponed until the 2021 season.
NIC classes suspended Monday due to air quality
