Local business representatives are shown here in November at North Idaho College’s Business Automation Exploration that explored training strategies in the changing job market. NIC invites high school and college students, educators, industry professionals and community members to the free, hands-on AI Hackathon on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to tackle local community needs in teams using AI tools.

The North Idaho College Writing Center’s visiting writer series will host poet and fiction writer Jonathan Johnson, author of the 2025 titles “Pine” and “The Little Lights of Town.”

The reading and book signing begins at noon Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Writing Center in the Lee Hall Annex on NIC’s Coeur d’Alene campus.

The event is free and open to the public.

Johnson is a professor at Eastern Washington University. His poems have been published in magazines and anthologies, have appeared in “Best American Poetry,” and on NPR.

His previous works include three books of poetry, “Mastodon, 80% Complete,” “In the Land We Imagined Ourselves,” and “May Is an Island,” as well as two memoirs and a play.
