Buddhist venerables to speak at North Idaho College
Posted: Friday, Mar 29, 2024North Idaho College will host seminars with Buddhist venerables exploring empathy and kindness on April 2 and 3 at NIC’s Coeur d’Alene campus.
Both events are free and open to the public.
“A Fearless Heart,” a seminar with Buddhist nun Venerable Sangye Khadro will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2 at the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room of the Edminster Student Union Building at NIC’s Coeur d’Alene campus.
Khadro’s talk will cover how caring for others with empathy, kindness and compassion can be difficult due to fear or being overwhelmed. Practical methods for addressing those challenges and other obstacles will be explored.
An additional seminar featuring venerables Thubten Ngawang and Thubten Gyatso titled “Seeing our Sameness” will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 at the Driftwood Bay Room of the Edminster Student Union Building at NIC’s Coeur d’Alene campus.
The discussion will cover how recognizing similarities in a world divided by differences is more important than ever. The talk will also explore why empathy is needed and how care should expand to include all living beings.
