The North Idaho College Workforce Training Center is bringing a Certified Nursing Assistant training program to St. Maries.

The first classes begin Sept. 17 and meet once a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays at St. Maries High School.  The course runs through Dec. 10, making it an accessible option for those looking to quickly start their careers.

“This will allow us to reach more students and communities, and expand essential career pathway programs, trainings, and opportunities to more people,” Sarah Martin, the center’s CNA program coordinator, said.

CNAs are an indispensable part of the healthcare team. Working closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals, CNAs are responsible for providing essential care to patients, including assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and eating. They monitor vital signs and ensure patient comfort. contact for patients, making them an indispensable part of the healthcare system.

NIC Workforce Training’s CNA program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the state certification exam and succeed in their roles.

“For anyone wanting to further their career skills and enter into the healthcare field, this is a perfect opportunity,” Martin said.

Marty Matney, manager of NIC Workforce Training Health Careers programs, said he is grateful for the community partners who made launching a CNA training course in St. Maries possible. Those partners include St. Maries High School, the St. Maries School District Superintendent Teresa Rensch and the district’s board of trustees, Benewah Community Hospital, and Valley Vista Care Center.

“Without these partners, we would not be able to provide this opportunity for individuals in St. Maries and the surrounding areas to build healthcare careers, nor would we be able to help develop skilled professionals needed to work in the area’s healthcare facilities.”

CNA students are eligible for funding assistance from a variety of sources, including scholarships, loans, payment plans, Advanced Opportunity for high school students and Idaho Launch. More information is available at nic.edu/wtcpaymentoptions
