North Idaho College will host book readings with published authors on April 10 and 11 as part of Eastern Washington University’s annual literary Get Lit! Festival.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Author Debra Magpie Earling, a member of the Bitterroot Salish tribe, will read select works from her books “Perma Red” and “The Lost Journals of Sacajawea” at noon on April 10 in the lobby of the DeArmond Building at NIC’s Coeur d’Alene campus.

Earling is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant, a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Montana Book Award, whose work spans across reservations and topics surrounding Native American history.

Poet Li-Young Lee will take part in a conversation around the themes of faith and spirituality in his work, moderated by NIC Professor of English Erin Davis and Poet Laureate of Coeur d’Alene Jennifer Passaro at 11 a.m. on April 11 at the Community Room of the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

Lee is the author of six poetry books, including his newest collection, “The Invention of the Darling.” Lee’s honors include fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Lannan Foundation, and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, as well as grants from the Illinois Arts Council, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
