NIC taken off Show Cause
Posted: Wednesday, Feb 26, 2025North Idaho College received notification Monday, Feb. 24 that its accreditor, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), has reduced a show cause sanction the accrediting agency imposed on NIC in 2022 and granted the college a one-year extension to bring a few remaining issues into compliance.
“While we still have work to do, this is a step in the right direction,” said NIC President Nick Swayne.
The college received the show cause sanction after the NWCCU found it was out of compliance with multiple accreditation standards, mainly due to board governance at the time. Since then, nearly all items have been resolved.
The letter from NWCCU said the commission noted significant progress in the past seven months and that NIC is “positioned to remedy the remaining non-compliant issues within the established timeframe of the extension.”
President Swayne said efforts are well underway to bring the outstanding areas into compliance.
“We’re happy they recognized all the efforts and good work being done at NIC,” Swayne said. “We look forward to putting this completely behind us.”
