Recruitment FAQs

Whether you have already found the perfect job or are just starting to look for opportunities, you will begin the application process on the North Idaho College Careers webpage. Once you have located a position you are interested in, Click Apply Now at the top of the posting to start the application. You will be taken to the login screen to either create an account, or enter your account information if you are not already logged in. NIC only accepts applications through our website, do no apply via other job boards.

All posted jobs are open and accepting applications. We work diligently to keep all postings updated throughout the recruitment process.

Unless a position is being run by an outside agency, all full-time faculty and staff job searches are posted on the NIC Careers webpage. Student, part-time, temporary help, as well as some temporary faculty jobs are not required to be posted online and may use alternative recruitment venues.

Yes, you may apply to multiple positions and manage your applications under one applicant account. An applicant can have any number of applications on file simultaneously, just be sure to upload the correct documentation to each one. Hiring managers do not see how many positions you are applying to.

In addition to the online application, many job postings will require supplemental documentation be provided. These will be listed in the job posting. Here are some examples of common documents you may be asked to provide:

  • Resume: A resume is a brief outline of experience (including volunteering or internship opportunities), education, recognitions/awards, participation in professional organizations and affiliations, and/or certification/licensure. You should also include your contact information such as name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. It is often 1-2 pages. Do not include sensitive personal information such as date of birth, social security number, gender, marital status, ethnicity, race, or photos. Resumes are often tailored to the position you are applying for.

  • Cover Letter: A cover letter should explain why an applicant is qualified for a particular position in brief, concise, paragraphs using specific examples. Often it is just one page but could be two. It can be addressed generically to the search committee.

  • Unofficial Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts for the highest degree related to the position will show your completed courses and/or conferred degree to support the minimum educational requirement. These are typically requested for faculty. Upon hire, official transcripts may be requested.

Yes and no. You may make updates to your personal information and upload a revised resume, cover letter, or other attachment at any time through your applicant account. However, you are unable to make changes to the job-specific application questions once your application is submitted.

Yes, you can start an application and return to finish it at a later time. When you log back in, your application will be saved under "Incomplete Applications" for easy access.

Alternately, you can submit your resume and information to our Talent Network so we can reach out if we see a great match for you.

There are multiple ways to login. Click on ‘Update an Application’ at the top of the Current Opening page and enter your email address. From there you’ll see the various ways to login or reset your password.

Searches operate on varying timelines due to committee schedules and other factors, so it is difficult to pinpoint when you might hear back. You are welcome to reach out to Human Resources for a status update. You can also check the status of your application in your applicant portal by clicking on ‘Update an Application’ at the top of the Current Openings page. You will hear directly from the department or search committee regarding any next steps in the application process.

NIC only accepts applications submitted through our official Employment webpage. If you click an "Apply Now" button on a job board, ensure it redirects you to the official NIC website. Applications or resumes submitted through external job boards will not be received.

Full-time equivalent experience is calculated based on working at least 30 hours per week. Part-time experience is prorated, meaning it takes twice as much part-time work to equal the same amount of full-time experience. For example, one year of part-time work equals six months of full-time experience.

Educational equivalency means you can use a combination of education and experience to fulfill the minimum educational job requirements. NIC uses a 1:1 ratio when evaluating minimum education/experience requirements (e.g., four years of relevant experience is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree and two years is equivalent to an Associate’s degree). If a position qualifies for educational equivalency, it will be indicated in the minimum qualifications section of the job advertisement. Keep in mind that if a position requires a degree plus experience, you will need the equivalent experience for the degree PLUS the required experience.

Example: Job requires “Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.” You could qualify with 7 years of related experience or an Associate’s degree and 5 years of related experience.

The starting wage range is listed in all job postings. Wage placements within that range are evaluated by HR toward the end of the recruitment process and are based on calculations of education and experience for the particular position. Yes, you can access your offer documents from the “view application” button next to the position in your applicant account. If you are unable to find it, please contact us at humanresources@nic.edu.

At NIC, there are two main types of employment: professional staff and classified staff. Professional staff typically include faculty, administrators, and other professional roles, while classified staff generally comprise technical, service, clerical, and some professional positions. Professional staff are typically Exempt, and classified staff are Non-Exempt.

Temporary positions usually have a specified end date or specific funding type that is finite. Temporary positions may be renewed each year based on the needs of the department and college. Regular positions do not have end dates or finite funding.

Yes and no. NIC expects all employees to be available to work on site. The exception is temporary participation in our remote work pilot program. The remote work arrangement allows certain employees the ability to alter their regular work schedule to work at an alternate work location such as their home, up to two days per week. An employee participating in this pilot program must reside in the state of Idaho in order to comply with state laws, filings, or tax requirements.

All job postings on our website represent genuine, nation-wide searches. Internal candidates are required to apply alongside external candidates. Our recruitment process is designed to be equitable, with all applicants evaluated based on pre-determined criteria and a thorough interview process to ensure fairness and transparency.
