The socio-economic and historical significance of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe is honored and recognized by the Nine-Point Agreement Story Tour at North Idaho College.
The college stands on traditional homeland of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. Through this story tour and other efforts detailed in the Nine-Point Agreement, NIC and the Tribe respect and honor the reverence and scope of this challenging legacy.
The Nine-Point Agreement between NIC and the Coeur d'Alene Tribe was signed in 1997. Its purpose is for the college and Tribe to work together on projects of mutual benefit to both communities, and to make NIC a more welcoming and supportive environment for Indian students.
The plan calls for the presentation of the history of the Coeur d'Alene Tribe throughout the NIC campus, with the specific goal of creating a Story Tour to encompass the campus.
This Story Tour is now under construction.
When this project is complete, stories detailing the rich history of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe will be told at buildings throughout the college's campus. A sign on each building will provide links to audio and text versions of the stories.
