CNA Frequently Asked Questions

Once you meet the Idaho State standards of successful completion of the CNA program, you will be eligible to register for two required tests. You are allowed 3 attempts for each test. The first test is the Skills test where you demonstrate competency. You have six months from graduation to complete this exam. After successful completion of the Skills exam, you are eligible to sit for the written exam where you have one year to complete. Upon completion of both exams you will be placed on the nurse aide registry within 4 business days.

Please contact the Board of Nursing in the designated state you plan to work for specific requirements. One can usually locate this information on the state’s Board of Nursing website. It is best to test in the state you received your training and obtain placement on the Nurse Aide Registry in Idaho. Many states will require a verification process of the state you are certified to be eligible for placement on their state registry. Idaho Nurse Aide Registry.

Your active placement on the nurse aide registry is good for two years.  If you are actively employed as a CNA, your employer will assist you in the renewal process. Idaho Nurse Aide Renewal.

You may be eligible to reinstate your status on the Idaho Nurse Aide registry by retaking the state exam. To check to see if this is an option for you, please contact the nurse aide registration at: Idaho Nurse Aide Registry.

Workforce Training Center is the non-credit side of North Idaho College, so Federal financial aid is not available. However, you may be eligible for Idaho LAUNCH, scholarships, or other funds. Please visit: Payment Options and Funding.

Many of the clinical sites require students to provide vaccination documentation to enter that clinical experience. Healthcare workers are at risk of being exposed to diseases that vaccinations will help protect. As you pursue a career in health care you will be required to provide vaccination documentation to enter into educational programs or employment opportunities. Each site does require a 2-step TB test. Depending on where you complete clinicals, additional vaccinations may be required. Your instructor will explore this further at the beginning of the course.

It is always best practice to fully disclose to a prospective employer any criminal history. All health care employers are required to have a finger printed background check on their employees. Due to the nature of caring for vulnerable people, there are some disqualifying offenses that will prohibit you from working in health care.
